Tana Mitchell is one half of studio Akin, in partnership with Emma Kaniuk. Her focus is “the generation of insightful, strategic ideas that are articulated and expressed with intelligence”. With over 20 years experience across the cultural, commercial and corporate sectors, Tana has successfully delivered a diverse range of projects including brand strategy and identity, packaging, editorial, wayfinding, customer experience, environments, campaigns, launch and activation programmes. Tana has developed many well-known brands locally, including Air New Zealand, Britomart, Artspace, Comvita and Methven, as well as working on large international brands in London, Berlin and New York. Emma Kaniuk is one half of studio Akin, in partnership with Tana Mitchell. Emma’s interdisciplinary approach is based around the simple principle of “great ideas, crafted well”. Previously at Special Group and Designworks, she’s worked across industries as diverse as arts, aviation, education, finance, FMCG, governmental initiatives, hospitality and luxury brands. Emma has broad experience across all areas of design from brand strategy and identity, packaging, editorial, wayfinding, customer experience, environments, campaigns, launch and activation programmes, to name a few. Her work has been awarded locally and globally across all disciplines, including being awarded Best Award’s highest honour—a purple pin of distinction for graphic design, and has been featured in Creative Review, Monocle, Threaded, Idealog and numerous online sites.
